Frisco was a farm town of a few thousand people in 1990 and is now one of the hundred largest cities in the country, built almost entirely in a single generation.
Where is Frisco?
Frisco is in northern Texas, about 25 miles north of downtown Dallas and roughly 40 miles northeast of Fort Worth. Plano adjoins it on the south and McKinney lies to the east; Garland and Irving are further south around Dallas. Austin is some 220 miles down Interstate 35. The Dallas North Tollway runs the length of the city and is the spine everything was built along.

Frisco in Texas
The city straddles the Collin and Denton county line, so its address book is split between two of the fastest-growing counties on the Texas county map. Frisco takes its name from the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway, whose line the original town moved to sit beside. It is the newest of the seven Dallas–Fort Worth cities on the top-100 list and reached it fastest, in a metro that has added more people this century than most states hold. Blackland prairie between two reservoirs
North Texas here is blackland prairie: nearly level, treeless except along the creeks, with heavy dark clay soil that made good cotton ground and now makes expensive foundations. There is no river through the city — the creeks drain east toward the East Fork of the Trinity and west toward the Elm Fork — and the water comes from reservoirs on either side, Lewisville Lake to the west and Lavon Lake to the east. Flat, cheap, well-drained land with tollway access is exactly what made building at this speed possible, and it is why the city could site large developments like the Dallas Cowboys' headquarters and the PGA of America's national campus on open prairie rather than squeezing them into an existing town.
